Family Float Over Fear consists of 4 lessons designed to teach family members water safety skills that help reduce the risk of drowning and build their confidence in and around water. A typical session includes: Exercises to help family members adjust to being in the water; instruction in two skill sets anyone can use if they unexpectedly find themselves in the water: Jump, Push, Turn, Grab and Swim, Float Swim; Safety topics like what to do if you see someone in the water who needs help. The session consists of 45 minute lessons and meets 4 times in the session. Title 4 has generously provided to help Portsmouth Residents with a child enrolled in Portsmouth Public Schools learn how to swim at our Portsmouth YMCA.
An adult participating alongside their child(ren) is an integral part of this program. Each family member participating must be registered.
