Advanced Swimmer - must be able to swim multiple lengths of the pool without assistance.
Participants must be able to pass the following swim test in order to take the Lifeguard Training program.
The swim test consists of being able to: 1. Swim 100 meters front crawl, 2. tread water for 2 minutes, and then 3. Swim 250 meters with the following strokes: 50 meters front crawl head up; 50 meters breaststroke; 50 meters breaststroke head up; 50 meters sidestroke; 50 meters breaststroke kick on back hands on the stomach; Swim 20 meters sprint, dive to bottom pick up ring and tread for 1 minute no hands; Replace ring, climb out of the pool, listen to the instructor's directions and complete requested tasks.
If you feel you cannot meet the prerequisite requirements and would like to have your skills reviewed contact the Aquatic Directors for an appointment.
Lifeguard candidates must pass the prerequisite swim requirements prior to the first day of class. Contact the Aquatic Director Tasha Lucy (tlucy@ymcashr.org) to schedule an assessment. All course dates must be attended.
